In our family we celebrate much more than the Easter Bunny at Easter, but being that gift giving is one of my top love languages, I can’t help but want to put together a fun Easter basket for my kids.
I loved getting a basket as a kid and even more loved the Easter egg hunts that we did around the house. My brother and I may or may not have required our parents to hide our Easter treats when we were both adults and I was married.
The growing issue for me, however, is that I don’t actually want my kids to have an entire basket full of sugar. I have a growing list of non-candy treats that we can gift at Easter.
There are some foods that my kids love that are pretty healthy but possibly not in the budget to buy every grocery trip. One easy category is nuts. My kids love pistachios but they are expensive and my children can easily eat a $15 bag in one sitting. An Easter basket is a perfect opportunity to gift them each their own stash of pistachios.
Another healthy option could be bags of gourmet popcorn. A favourite recipe from a friend includes mixing air popped corn in a sauce made from honey, coconut oil, cinnamon, cacao powder, and sea salt. It’s an amazing, decadent treat and it’s quite healthy.
Whether your kids are young or old, nice art supplies are a great gift. Young kids might enjoy new markers, reams of craft paper, vials of glitter, or an assortment of pom poms and pipe cleaners that they can use without restriction. Older kids may enjoy a quality set of pastels or an adult colouring book with a pencil crayon roll.
Other small filler items might include sunglasses, device chargers, hair ties, card game, a book, water balloons, sidewalk chalk, an umbrella, jewelry, a beach towel or a lawn game. I don’t like buying too many little toys but prefer to gift items that will be used up, enjoyed and not clutter up my house.
Happy Easter!
