We have so much snow. I know, I know, “Thank you Captain Obvious!”
I can do without the -40 C temperatures but having snow in winter is fun. We played “chicken” with the snow this year and lost. Lost big time. We kept our trampoline up for weeks longer than we should have, and to be fair the kids were still playing on it until about December 3.
Until snowmageddon happened, and then happened again and then one more time. After all that, we had a good three to four feet of snow on the trampoline. Awesome.
We finally did what responsible adults should do and shovelled off all the snow and dismantled the trampoline. We made sure to pile all the snow in one area. Then the husband added to the monstrous pile of snow, and then relied on the arctic temps to harden the snow pile. As soon as the weather turned warmer he headed out there on a fort building mission.
After a few hours of digging and sculpting we were left with a pretty epic snow fort or more accurately a Quinzhee. The kids are loving playing in it and the frequently come to the back door to acquire hot chocolates to go and sip in their fort/Jedi base.
So, if you haven’t built a fort yet, I recommend getting on that. I saw a mom building a tunnel and fort all on her own and you know you want to as well.
Considering that it still gets dark pretty early, you can enjoy things like brining battery operated candles into the fort at a decent hour. Candlelit forts are pretty magical. Another fabulous idea is to purchase a few packs of glow sticks and hide them out in the snow for your kids to find and then they can use them to decorate their fort for the evening.
For a little competition, you could make a pile of snowballs and then throw at a target outlined with glow sticks (or coloured water). The snow is here for a while so we might as well enjoy it.
