Faith separate from theology simply means not questioning a belief that a person or persons will not stray from.
Before the Renaissance, an individuals’ commitment to their religion was unwavering and unquestioned. The spark that finally lit the inferno that began the end of church rule in Europe was Martin Luther’s 95 theses written in 1517.
In the early stages of that era, many splinter religions of Catholicism began to pop everywhere across Europe.
One of the main issues that Luther and many others were unhappy with was the church accepting or asking for their money and valuables in return for being cleansed of their sins.
Luther was just one part of many components that slowly came together and started the beginning of the end of church rule in Europe. There were attempts made to regain control but ultimately church rule was greatly reduced to the point that the Enlightenment period was able to take hold of Europe afterwards.
That era not only saw the rejection of church rule but also a rejection of the concept that one’s life and individual happiness can be sacrificed for a greater cause, as defined by those with power. A great many people and groups of people with power during that era were quickly reduced to execution or exile.
Similarly, the Civil Rights movement in the U.S. resulted in the loss of power for those who pushed back. America was changed forever. History is full of reactionary movements and the fuel that turns them into an inferno is when those with power become aware they are losing the support of the people but choose to punish and force them into submission.
Today, many on the left with power have been on a crusade for the last few decades against wealth production and individual rights. Germany, being the best example, has crippled their economy, massively reduced their public safety and massively reduced the respect it once had for the individual rights of its people.
What I am talking about is their mishandling of the refugee circus. Bringing in millions of people into an economically weak country, who upon arrival cannot find work because they lack certain skills or the jobs are just not available is not a good thing to allow. When people can’t find work they go on tax-funded welfare. Allowing all this happen is very problematic and calling people who disagree with you racist and then asserting moral superiority over them will make things worse.Â
With unemployment and taxes going up coupled with routine terrorist attacks and protests, Germany needed to change its polices. That didn’t happen and now the Alternative for Germany Party (AFD) is the third largest party in the country. It is the first German nationalist party to enter German parliament since the Nazis.
Germany is sinking into a storm of political gridlock and polarization. The reason why things have gotten this bad is the same reason why the federal Liberals are allowing approximately 60 ISIS participants back into Canada as free citizens.
Faith in political ideologies is not good and it is the only thing that will blind those with power to the crumbling foundation they stand upon. The rise of Donald Trump, the AFD party, Marie Le Pen, Brexit and the anti-EU turmoil that is engulfing Eastern Europe are all connected and are all signs that status-quo of the last few decades is crumbling.
You cannot force people to act against their own rational self-interest regardless of how moral those in power believe doing so is. In Canada, accepting these ISIS participants is a problem that can be dealt with peacefully. What is worrying is the continued response from those on the left that disagree with them.
Phasing out coal is moral, endangering public safety for the greater good is moral, suppressing free speech is moral and those that disagree are racist bigots or ignorant hicks is the commonly encountered defense for those ideas.
The federal Liberals have occasionally utilized that defence and it has not worked where it has been tried. Additionally it makes things worse and it is also un-Canadian. Canada historically follows three principles and they are peace, order and good government.
Our adherence to those principles has allowed us to enjoy a relatively nonviolent past while also allowing us to preserve individual rights while satisfying the common good. That is the Canadian tradition and the federal Liberals are willing to throw that away because they practice faith in their ideas and won’t question them.
