I've started to stock up for our yearly marathon of Christmas movies.
For some reason, when it's Christmas, I can handle all the "cheese" that is for some reason a requirement of Christmas movies. Because it's a niche genre we don't have a large cache of seasonal movies and thus we end up watching the same ones over and over.
Typically that's not my jam but when it comes to Christmas I appreciate the element of tradition that it facilitates.
I recently went in search of the Home Alone movies to watch with our kids (even though, beware, there are parts we need to skip for our seven- and nine-year-olds that are totally inappropriate, but that apparently you could get away with in a kids movie in the 1990s). I ended up finding a disc set with all five Home Alone films.
Did you know there were five? I did not.
When you're watching a Christmas movie for the fifth time, I think it may be a good idea to add a little more to the viewing experience. We all know that I'm a big fan of scavenger hunts during things like a twinkle tour and so this year we're going to give Christmas Movie Bingo a try.
All you need to start with is a list of things that you would commonly see in a Christmas movie. Then either draw a 5x5 table (or create one in a Word document) and write the seasonal items in random boxes. Make sure all of the Bingo sheets are different so people aren't getting bingo at the same time.
Here's a list of items for your Bingo sheets to get you started:Â a Christmas tree, coloured lights, Santa, cookies, candy cane, star, elf, bow, white lights, sleigh, puppy, carol of the bells, church, nativity scene, wreath, turkey, deer, wine, someone falling off of a roof, child sitting on Santa's knee, ice, snow, blizzard, reindeer, candy and the North Pole.
As you watch, mark off each item you see and yell Bingo when you get a line or a black out.
