Cheers and Jeers for Nov. 24

Cheers: Cheers to a local business for finding a person’s wallet, contacting the owner, and locking the wallet in their safe until it could be picked up. When a reward was offered, the business said to pay it forward.

Cheers to the Estevan Kinettes Club for hosting the great Kinette Craft Carnival on Saturday. There were a lot of great gift opportunities at the event.

Cheers to the all of the people who showed up at the Estevan city council meeting on Monday night. It’s always great to see a large and respectful crowd at a council meeting.

Cheers to the opening of the twinned lanes of Highway 39 east of Estevan. Driving on that stretch of road should be a lot safer.

Cheers to everyone who supported the Teddy Bear Toss for the Estevan Salvation Army at Saturday night’s Power Dodge Estevan Bruins game.

Jeers:

Jeers to the potential closure of the Civic Auditorium. It’s not on the verge of collapse and can still play a valuable role for its users.

Jeers to being forced to travel to other communities in the middle of winter because of the Civic’s closure, to make it to practices and games.

Jeers to those who haven’t been driving smartly on the newly twinned stretch of Highway 39. Just because there are double lanes doesn’t mean people can drive too aggressively, or too slowly.

Jeers to those who allow extension cords to cross sidewalks, and create trip hazards for pedestrians. There are people who need to walk even in the cold weather.

Jeers to people who unnecessarily park in handicapped stalls. There’s no reason to do so, even if it’s just for a couple of minutes.
