Cheers to the Estevan Police Service, the Estevan Fire and Rescue Service and SaskEnergy for their quick response and professional service during a natural gas leak in our backyard.

Cheers to everybody who was involved with the 100th birthday celebrations at Trinity Lutheran Church. It really was a great weekend.

Cheers to the students at Sacred Heart School for discouraging people from idling their vehicles in Estevan. Hopefully, motorists grasp that it’s not okay to leave their vehicle running for lengthy periods of time, even in the winter.

Cheers to all of the dedicated employees of the Westmoreland Coal Company for their dedication to the community.

Cheers to Robert Keating on his recent induction into the CurlSask Legends of Curling Honour Roll. He dedicated many hours to the sport in Benson and other communities.

Jeers:

Jeers to the semi-truck drivers who continue to miss or ignore the truck bypass, and are driving down Fourth Street.

Jeers to the length of time that Kensington Avenue North has been closed. If we get any rain at all, it might not be finished in time for the Summer Games.

Jeers to people who leave their pets in their vehicles, with the windows rolled up, during the hot days this year. Some people just shouldn’t be entrusted with animals.

Jeers to the two proposed six per cent rate increases for SaskPower. One rate increase would be justifiable, but two in a six-month span is a little much.

Jeers to the provincial government’s plan to study the competitiveness of SaskTel. Is this the first step towards privatizing SaskTel? SaskTel’s services are still better than anything found in the private sector.
