Cheers: Cheers to the Estevan Comprehensive School’s cheerleaders for placing first at the provincial competition on March 25.

Cheers:

Cheers to the Estevan Comprehensive School’s cheerleaders for placing first at the provincial competition on March 25.

Cheers to police Chief Paul Ladouceur for suggesting the seizure of vehicles from those who repeatedly drive while impaired. It’s good to see a strong stance on drunk driving.

Cheers to the organizers of the B&T Gun Show this past weekend. The selection of firearms was great, and it was nice to see more than just guns for sale.

Cheers to all of the local minor hockey teams for their efforts this season. They did a great job of representing the city.

Cheers to the Power Dodge Estevan Bruins for advancing to the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League semifinals. Good luck against the Battlefords North Stars.

Jeers:

Jeers to the city for approving the smoking policy. It’s hard enough to get a good turnout to the venues, or for sporting functions in the city. This will only discourage smokers from attending.

Jeers to the Estevan police for spending money in the wrong places. Some officers need better equipment like high-visibility clothing. When it is dark or foggy, it’s hard to see them on the streets.

Jeers to the provincial government for taking away so much funding from municipalities. These communities had already passed their budgets, thinking they would have that money.

Jeers to the funding cuts for the regional library system. Libraries are much more than a place where people go to check out books. They offer valuable programming for our communities.

Jeers to the $28 billion deficit that is in the federal budget. Did the federal government even try to have a balanced budget?
