Cheers and Jeers for July 14

Cheers: Cheers to the city of Estevan employee who allowed a local resident to use his cell phone when the resident had locked herself out of her house.

Cheers to the city of Estevan employee who allowed a local resident to use his cell phone when the resident had locked herself out of her house.

Cheers to Estevan Diversified Services for the absolutely awesome Canada 150 flags they made this year. It is so nice to see so many people having them in their yards.

Cheers to the young people who were part of the Estevan Rotary 4-H Show and Sale last week. They did a great job preparing their cattle for the sale.

Cheers to the City of Estevan for the quality of the dandelion control on city property this year.

Cheers to the performers who were part of A Soldier’s War at the Souris Valley Theatre. It’s a great show and a fine tribute to the sacrifices Canadian soldiers have made.

Jeers:

Jeers to the individual who decided to dump his old three-piece couch in a ditch beside the Rafferty Dam access road a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully that person is embarrassed when driving by it.

Jeers to a Saskatchewan Crown corporation for hiring Alberta workers. They could save some time, money and energy and hire local companies to do the work.

Jeers to the idea of SGI suing bar owners who overserve impaired drivers. The drivers should be sued, but it’s not necessarily the business owners who are responsible.

Jeers to drivers who don’t slow down when passing emergency vehicles with their lights on. It puts first responders at an unnecessary risk.

Jeers to the federal government’s decision to direct $10.5 million of our taxpayer dollars to Omar Khadr. He shouldn’t get a dime of our money.
