Cheers to Norm Park, who has retired after years and years of faithful service to the Estevan Mercury. We will miss his mostly witty, weekly column, and all of his great stories.

Cheers to the young boy and his mother for all their help looking for a family’s missing dog. Their kindness is truly appreciated.

Cheers to the lifeguard staff at the RM of Estevan Aquatic Centre. They are so good with the kids.

Cheers to the Estevan Lions Club for holding a free swim at the RM of Estevan Aquatic Centre. It was good to have an event like that for families on Family Day.

Cheers to the Estevan Arts Council for hosting their annual art camp for youth. It gives the kids something to do during the winter break, other than sitting in front of a screen.

Jeers:

Jeers to anyone who complains about the local police’s proposal to permanently seize vehicles from motorists with multiple convictions for impaired driving.

Jeers to whoever is responsible for this new scam in the community, with somebody pretending to be from Service Canada, and claiming there is a problem with passport information.

Jeers to the motorists who make illegal U-turns. It’s not legal to do a U-turn at an intersection where there’s a traffic light, regardless of how much of a hurry you’re in.

Jeers to those who are driving at high rates of speed on our streets, especially in the morning and at night when the roads are icy. Just because the snow is melting doesn’t mean you can drive too fast.

Jeers to the potholes that are already starting to appear around town. Looks like it’s going to be tough to get around town the next few weeks. Ìý
