The Cleveland Cavaliers won the 2016 NBA Final, as they upset the defending champions, the Golden State Warriors, 93-89 in Game 7. The Warriors held on to a one-point lead going into the fourth quarter. Cavaliers forward LeBron James was named the Most Valuable Player in the final. This is the first championship in a major pro sport for the city of Cleveland since 1964 when the Browns won the NFL Championship.
In the CFL preseason, the Saskatchewan Roughriders lost to the Edmonton Eskimos 25-11 in a one-sided game. The Riders will open the regular season in Week 2 at home against the Toronto Argonauts.
Other recent preseason scores were: the Hamilton Tiger-Cats beat the Ottawa RedBlacks 42-25, the Montreal Alouettes defeated the Toronto Argonauts 22-15 and the Calgary Stampeders beat the B.C Lions 31-21.
In the Arena Football League, the Philadelphia Soul lost to the Arizona Rattlers 80-68. The Soul’s record is 9-3 and their next game is against the Portland Steel.
Other scores from Week 12 were: the Orlando Predators beat the Jacksonville Sharks 44-34, the LA Kiss beat the Tampa Bay Storm 54-27, and the Cleveland Gladiators got past the Steel 58-49.
In Major League Soccer, Toronto FC got past the LA Galaxy 1-0 in a close game. Toronto’s record is 5-5-4 and they are in fifth place in the Eastern Conference.
The Toronto Blue Jays took one of three games from the Baltimore Orioles over the weekendin Major League Baseball action. The Jays are in third place in the American League East Division.
In the Western Major Baseball League, the Regina Red Sox lost to the Yorkton Cardinals 7-4. The Red Sox are in second place in the Eastern Division.
