Canada wins men’s world title

Team Canada, skipped by Brad Gushue, won the Ford World Men’s Curling Championship, beating Team Sweden’s Niklas Edin 4-2 in the final. Canada finished the round robin undefeated and in first place.

Canada finished the round robin undefeated and in first place.  Canada defeated Team Sweden in the round-robin and in the page playoff game, in addition to the final.

In the Arena Football League, the Cleveland Gladiators lost to the Tampa Bay Storm 46-40 in their home opener. The Gladiators next game is against the Baltimore Brigade.

The other game from the opening week of the season saw the expansion Washington Valor beat the Baltimore Brigade 51-38 in a one-sided game.

In Major League Soccer, Toronto FC tied Atlanta United 2-2 in another game. Toronto’s record is 1-0-4 and they are tied for fifth in the Eastern Conference.

In NCAA Baseball, the No. 12 Florida Gators managed to win only one of three games from the Tennessee Volunteers on the weekend. The Gators are in third place in the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Eastern Conference’s East Division.

As for Major League Baseball, the Toronto Blue Jays took one of four games from the Tampa Bay Rays on the weekend. The Jays are in last place in the American League East.

In NHL action, the Ottawa Senators split their games on the weekend, beating the New York Rangers 3-1 on Saturday then losing to the New York Islanders 4-2 on Sunday. The Senators finished their regular season with a 42-28-10 record and will face the Boston Bruins in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

In the American Hockey League, the Ontario Reign swept the home-and-home series with the San Diego Gulls on the weekend. The Reign are in fifth place in the Western Conference and they have clinched a playoff spot.
