Brad Gushue and his team won the Elite 10 of the Grand Slam of Curling in Victoria, B.C., beating Reid Carruthers in a shootout draw to the button in the championship final. Gushue had a record of 4-0 in the round-robin, then he beat Steve Laycock in the semifinal. Again he needed a shootout draw to the button to win. This is Brad Gushue’s first win at the Elite 10. The next event is the Player’s Championships.
In Major League Baseball spring training, the Minnesota Twins lost to the New York Yankees 6-4, then they lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates 2-0 in a close game.
In NCAA Baseball, the No. 1 Florida Gators swept the Missouri Tigers over the weekend. The Gators are in a tie for first place in the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Eastern Conference’s East Division.
The Calgary Roughnecks got past the Colorado Mammoth 13-9 in a close game in the National Lacrosse League. The Roughnecks are in third place in the West Division with a 5-7 record.
In Major League Soccer, Toronto FC lost to Sporting KC 1-0 in a close game. Toronto’s record is 1-1-1 and they are in fourth place and their next game is against the Colorado Rapids.
In the American Hockey League, the Ontario Reign split their games over the weekend. They beat the San Antonio Rampage 5-3 and then they lost 4-1 to the San Diego Gulls.
The Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League closed out the regular season with a 6-3 win over the Sarnia Sting. The Spitfires finished the regular season with a 40-21-6-1 record, and they will face Kitchener Rangers in the playoffs.
The Regina Pats closed out the Western Hockey League regular season with a 3-0 loss to the Brandon Wheat Kings. The Pats will face the Lethbridge Hurricanes in the playoffs.
