Team Newfoundland and Labrador, skipped by Brad Gushue, won the Tim Hortons Brier as they edged Team Canada, skipped by Kevin Koe, 7-6 in an extra end. Brad Gushue finished the round robin with a 9-2 record and tied for first place with Team Manitoba, skipped by Mike McEwan. Gushue and Newfoundland edged McEwan and team Manitoba 7-5 in the opening playoff game. Gushue will now represent Canada at the Men’s World Curling Championships in Edmonton.
The Toronto Blue Jays won one of three games in Major League Baseball spring training action on the weekend. The Blue Jays sit near the bottom of the Grapefruit League standings.
In NCAA Baseball, the No. 5 Florida Gators took two of three games from the Seton Hall Pirates on the weekend. The Gators are in first place in the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Eastern Conference’s East Division.
Toronto FC tied the Philadelphia Union 2-2 in a close Major League Soccer game. Toronto had the lead but they couldn’t hold it. Toronto has tied their first two games of the season.
In the National Lacrosse League, the Calgary Roughnecks lost to the Toronto Rock 16-10 in a tough game. The Roughnecks next game is against the Georgia Swarm.
In the American Hockey League, the Ontario Reign won one of their three games on the weekend. The Reign are in sixth place in the Western Conference.
As for the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League, they swept the home and home series with the Moose Jaw Warriors. The Pats are in first place in the East Division.
In the Ontario Hockey League, the Windsor Spitfires split their games on the weekend. They lost to the Sarnia Sting 5-3 but got past Flint Firebirds 4-3.
