July is most definitely beach season in Saskatchewan.
We have plenty of sun, little wind, and soaring temperatures. It makes camping out by the water for a day fun and refreshing. At times, though, just laying on the beach and taking the occasional dip can get a little boring (or not).
For those who do feel they need a little more activity in their beach time, here are few easy beach games you can play.
The first is beach bowling. Rather than trying to knock things down, such as bowling pins, you need to sink your ball. So maybe it’s more like shooting pool but whatever. Dig a few holes in the sand and then draw a line where your bowling lane begins.
You have to bowl from behind this line. Using random balls in your beach bag or a tube of tennis balls, take turns bowling your balls to the holes. You can even assign different holes with different points and keep track of your score.
Sand Pictionary is another great option. Use an app to generate Pictionary ideas or just let the person drawing decide on their picture. Draw in the sand and have the rest of your team guess what you’re illustrating!
Tic Tac Toe is an easy game to set up on the beach. Use a stick to draw your lines in the sand and then use toys, rocks or shells as your pieces. Take turns laying your pieces and see who can be the first to three objects in a row.
If you want a game where you can get cool off a bit, try a few rounds of musical floaties. Float your random beach floats in the water and swim or wade around them. When the music stops, jump on a floaty. It’s up to you whether you allow dumping people off their tube.
While the sun is high in the sky it’s an excellent time for shadow tag. Use the regular rules of tag but instead of tagging people you need to touch their shadow. Obviously you’ll need the honour system on this one.
