As a true Canadian I am very frightened that Canadians are seriously considering electing a socialist government.
I was born and raised in Ontario, and as a teenager in the 70s, I moved to Saskatchewan, the home of Tommy Douglas, the founder of the socialist CCF/NDP.
At 17, politics are not something the average teenager is really thinking about, however, I got my first preview of politics in Saskatchewan as it is talked about as much, if not more so, than the Roughriders.
When I turned 20, my girlfriend and I moved to Alberta. I was still very naïve regarding politics. Things felt different and were different in Alberta. I was making good money, my girlfriend and I got married, we bought a beautiful 1,300 sq. ft. three-year-old house and things were great.
In the mid 80s, I moved my wife and now two young children home to Saskatchewan, as a new Conservative government had been elected in the early 80s and things were looking up. The CCF/NDP had held power in Saskatchewan for 31 years and the Liberals for seven, before this Conservative government was elected.
The new government had a lot of work to do as the infrastructure in Saskatchewan was in bad shape. They were spending money, creating jobs and the population of Saskatchewan was growing at a steady rate for the first time in almost 40 years.
Then, in the fall of 1991, the socialist NDP were elected because the people of Saskatchewan were scared into thinking (by the NDP) that this government was going to bankrupt the province because of a $6 billion debt and did not understand that it costs a lot of money to fix what had been neglected for years.
Today, the NDP next door in Manitoba have a debt of over $33.6 billion and counting and have been in power for the past 17 years.
Over the years under the NDP, we saw highways deteriorate, schools close and hospital bed numbers cut. Skating and curling rinks were shutting down. There was increasing unemployment and people needing social assistance while the population was getting smaller as the unemployed and people on social assistance and the children who were graduating, were leaving the province, usually headed to Alberta to find work.
This all could have been prevented by simply getting rid of the socialist NDP and electing a new government.
The socialists are about supporting and increasing unions and large cities. They don’t give a sh.. about rural areas. Their belief is if we neglect them and create union jobs in the larger cities, the voters in the rural areas will either leave the province or move into cities for work. They will then become union members and will be told to vote NDP if they want to keep their jobs.
Look at Saskatchewan today under the conservative Saskatchewan Party. In less than eight years, the infrastructure has improved, the province is growing in population and thousands of jobs have been created with a debt of $4.6 billion and an unemployment rate of 4.7 per cent, lowest in the country.
Look at Alberta today. In less than two months in power, the NDP increased corporate taxes by 20 per cent, provincial income tax for some by 50 per cent and, on average, for all hard working, experienced and educated Albertans today, they are paying roughly 30 per cent more in provincial income tax and the socialists are just getting started.
Canada, if the socialist NDP are elected we will be in a recession and this recession will last for as long as they remain in government.
If you don’t like Harper, I am sorry, but, at this time, he is clearly the only choice because the NDP is not a choice and the Liberal’s Justin Trudeau has clearly shown he is not ready, and even real Liberals who are business people and business owners, will likely be voting Conservative.
Please don’t stay at home, or we could become a socialist country. Like Harper or not, get out and vote for him.
One more thing. If you really want to understand who the NDP are, I recommend you read the Canadian bestselling book, Left Out by John Gormley.
Sincerely,
Ron Dunville
