Team Alberta, skipped by Kevin Koe, beat Team Newfoundland, skipped by Brad Gushue, 9-5 in nine ends to win the 2016 Brier in Ottawa. Alberta finished the round-robin in third place with an 8-3 record, but they beat Manitoba, skipped by Mike McEwen, 7-5 in the page playoff game between the third and fourth place teams. Then they edged Northern Ontario, skipped by Brad Jacobs, 6-5 in the semifinal. Kevin Koe will represent Canada at the Men’s World Curling Championship in Switzerland.
In Major League Soccer, Toronto FC came from behind to tie New York City FC 2-2. Toronto’s record is 1-0-1 and they are in second place in the Eastern Conference.

The Calgary Roughnecks of the National Lacrosse League beat the Toronto Rock 15-10 in a close game. The Roughnecks are in third place in the West Division.
In the American Hockey League, the Ontario Reign split their games over the weekend. They lost to the San Diego Gulls 2-1 in overtime, and then they beat the San Jose Barracuda 5-1. The Reign are in first place in the Western Conference.
The Regina Pats swept a home-and-home with the Moose Jaw Warriors over the weekend in the Western Hockey League. The Pats are seventh place in the Eastern Conference.
In the Ontario Hockey League, the Windsor Spitfires lost to the Owen Sound Attack 5-4 in a shootout. The Spitfires are in fifth place in the Western Conference.
