Adult skills

My current obsession and favourite pastime is the paddle board. I love it so much. Because I love it, I try to make time for it whenever possible. With any hobby there are things you need to learn to do in order to make your process smooth.

My current obsession and favourite pastime is the paddle board. I love it so much. Because I love it, I try to make time for it whenever possible.

With any hobby there are things you need to learn to do in order to make your process smooth. One for me is loading, unloading and securing my boards for travel. Even being the "handy" girl that I am, for the longest time, ratchet straps were beyond me. I took the time to learn how to use them on several occasions but for some reason when it came down to doing it on my own I was befuddled, and ended up just tying my straps.

After lots of tying, I did attempt to use them properly each time, and at one point it all just seemed to click, and now I can properly use the straps every time I secure my boards. Yay me! I remarked to a friend that I feel like I fully deserve a ratchet strap badge to sew onto my life jacket.

For real; I need a badge people.

It made me think that getting badges for life skills as an adult would be really fun. I know there are wonderful organizations like Girl Guides and Scouts and such that give kids the opportunities to mark their success in such a tangible way, but we are lacking in the adulting awards category.

These are a few things that I believe deserve a badge:

-Washing, folding and putting away laundry all in one day;

-Remembering to bring your reusable grocery bags for every shopping trip in a month;

-Four weeks of meal planning and actually having the groceries on hand

-Changing the oil in your car;

-Keeping the interior of your car clean;

-Planting perennials and thus making your future yard nice;

-Baking a cake from scratch;

-Teaching your little people how to make a traditional family dish;

Adulting can be hard. I for one would feel a little more motivated by the badge system. Sometimes we just need a little recognition. Who's with me?
