It started last year as an opportunity to not only showcase the terrific restaurants found in southeast Saskatchewan, and the outstanding alcoholic beverage companies that have been popping up in the province, but also as a fundraiser for the 2016 Saskatchewan Summer Games in Estevan.

By the end of the night, Savour the Â鶹ÊÓƵeast was not only being hailed as a smashing success, but it left patrons wondering when it would happen again.

It didn’t take long for organizers to decree it would return in 2017.

And we’re thankful it’s back this year.

Thanks to last year’s success, other companies want to be involved, so people can look forward to even more options for the tokens that need to be purchased.

And a new organization has been selected to benefit from this year’s Savour the Â鶹ÊÓƵeast: the new outdoor multi-sport facility that the Estevan Kinsmen and Kinettes have been fundraising for at their play park in the Hillside subdivision.

This facility will not only serve as place to skate and play hockey during the winter months, but it will also be a place where youth can play basketball or roller skate during the spring and summer months.

We don’t have a facility like that in Estevan at this time, but thanks to the local Kin clubs and the support of local businesses and organizations, we will have one soon. It’ll be a great addition to our community, and it will help keep kids active.

People who attend Savour the Â鶹ÊÓƵeast can also look forward to having more space to move. The walkways around the food and drink booths were packed with people last year, making it difficult to navigate the area. A redesign of the booth locations and the stage should free up more room.

Savour the Â鶹ÊÓƵeast has quickly become an event that people in this city are proud of. It gives them an opportunity to try something new – food from a restaurant they haven’t been to before, or even something different from a restaurant they visit regularly.

It’s also a chance to sample the beer, wine and spirits from Saskatchewan’s burgeoning craft alcohol industry. There’s no better time than Savour the Â鶹ÊÓƵeast to break away from the mainstream alcohol options that have dominated the Saskatchewan marketplace for far too long.

And it’s a time to listen to some excellent music, courtesy of the three Saskatchewan-based performers lined up to entertain the spectators throughout the night.

This event is a celebration of Saskatchewan and the talent this province has in food, beverages and music. And it’s a perfect example of what can happen when somebody has an idea, and brings the right group of volunteers together in the right venue to pull it off. Hopefully the response from the public is even better than it was last year.
