A disaster movie I don't want to see

I like disaster movies as much as the next person.

I like disaster movies as much as the next person.聽

When movies like Twister and The Day After Tomorrow and the Jurassic Park series and Armageddon and Deep Impact and The World's End and to some extent even Titanic (oh, shut up) come on TV on a lazy Sunday afternoon, I'm transfixed to the screen to watch the carnage and disaster destroy someone's CGI dreamscape or set.聽

There's an escapism there to be sure. What if the Statue of Liberty was flooded quickly by a freezing tsunami? Now, I have at least some idea of what that could look like.聽

But then came the Trump Train. United States President Donald Trump is a real life disaster movie; a bad Hollywood script waiting for a second act to take it to another level. The United States is on the brink of a catastophe, according to every Hollywood trope I've ever read or seen.聽

Trump is like the real life disaster president in the 'before the catastrophe' part of the movie, the one who blindly follows his own instinct instead of listening to scientists or conscientious advisors.聽

Monday mornings are often the tipping point in this real life film. This week, for example, he railed on about London Mayor Sadiq Khan's statement about how Londoners shouldn't panic. Khan is of course referring to the large amount of police presence after a terror attack in nightclubs and barricades and the like around his city, telling people it should be business as close to usual in the coming days. Trump is of course using this as an excuse to push his own domestic Muslim ban policy. 聽 聽

In four tweets that morning, Trump took away all of his own legal team's arguments and undermined his own travel ban that he wasn't supposed to call a 'travel ban'.聽

鈥淭he Justice Dept. should ask for an expedited hearing of the watered down Travel Ban before the Supreme Court - & seek much tougher version!鈥 the old man yelling at clouds tweeted at 4:37 a.m. Monday.聽

This stance is currently arguing against his own legal defence team that is taking this ban up to the Supreme Court.聽

He also blamed Democrats for blocking his appointments to various high level positions in government when he in fact hasn't actually made many of the appointments to begin with.聽

Also, it was learned that Trump removed a pledge to maintain Article 5 of NATO from a speech he made there, blindsiding his own advisors who see the benefits of actually having allies in the modern world.聽

And this would be all amusing and good, light, fun popcorn fare if the fate of both the free and captive world were not hanging in the balance. It's this kind of governing style that makes one glad they're not sinking a lot into an RRSP. Who knows if there even is a future at this rate?聽 聽

Let's not even talk about North Korea, a country with a nuclear program 鈥 albeit a weak, likely extremely impotent one.聽 Let's talk about a world where the United States is on a knife edge, losing valuable allies in a fight against terrorism. While the rules are a bit different than they were in 2001, the country is on the verge of a major disaster or attack with little in the way of people in charge wanting to make a positive difference.聽

It's actually kind of frightening to think the world we know could be destroyed by someone so callous and boorish. This is one movie that wouldn't get very many stars.聽
