The Assiniboia Curling Club is now roughly halfway through its current season, but the action will continue to buzz. The Masters Spiel took place in early January with eight rinks enjoying a weekend of games and fellowship. The Bud Guidos rink of Moose Jaw emerged as the overall winners, but all rinks were true winners from exercising and renewing acquaintances. Curlers from Estevan, Moose Jaw, Mossbank and Assiniboia took part in the Masters Spiel.
The Assiniboia Curling Club successfully held their first ever U18 spiel on Saturday, January 18. The rinks again competed over the day, with out of town rinks coming from Swift Current, Maple Creek, Regina, Avonlea and Rockglen. It was a fine display of younger curlers. Team Robinson from Maple Creek went undefeated to claim this year’s title.
All leagues are well into their round robin action and playoffs will soon be happening. Afternoon Coed Curling on Monday and Wednesday at 1:30 and Family Rec Curling on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. will continue. Don’t be afraid to drop in and get in on the action.
The Assiniboia Curling Club will also host the Prairie Â鶹ÊÓƵ Bantam Sectionals on Friday, January 31 and Saturday, February 1 along with the Prairie Â鶹ÊÓƵ Senior High School Districts from February 7-8. Winners from the Assiniboia matches will advance further up the playoff trail. Also, the Davyroyd District Fun Spiel will be held on Saturday, February 15.
Finally, the March curling schedule promises to be a full one. The Bar B Mixed Classic will be held on March 6 and 7. The Ladies Annual will be conducted on March 13 and 14. And to wrap up the season, the Men’s Annual will take place from March 20-22. For information on any of these competitions, phone the ACC office at 306-642-5115 to enter.
