The safety of this community is of utmost importance to the Town of Assiniboia. Therefore, Mayor Bob Himbeault and Town of Assiniboia’s council have taken additional measures with the goal of limiting transmission of the COVID-19 and assisting public health.
In order to support the reduction of Canada’s peak number of cases and the related demands on hospitals and healthcare professionals, the following closures are effective immediately until further notice.
The Assiniboia Town Office will be closed to the public. Payments can be made via internet, telephone banking and the drop slot. Customers may contact the office via email or telephone. The Assiniboia and District Museum and the Visitor Information Centre, which were both scheduled for opening on April 1, will remain closed until further notice. The Civic Centre has been closed for the season effective Saturday, March 14. Also, the Town of Assiniboia recreation programs (basketball, volleyball, pickle ball, etc.) are postponed until further notice.
The Prince of Wales Cultural and Recreation Centre is closed to the public with the exception of access to the second-floor businesses. To assist in the safety of the town’s volunteer drivers and those who access this service, the Handi-Van service will be temporarily discontinued. The Town will continue to monitor information on COVID-19 and will be reviewing future public events closer to their scheduled times then decide whether they will be postponed or cancelled.
