Grade 11 student Jayda Cameron will be part of the cast for a Christmas event for the Regina Symphony Orchestra on Sunday, Dec. 8, playing the character of Anika.
Jayda is a veteran performer with the Do It With Class youth theatre group based in Regina, and her voice teacher from the group asked if she would come sing and be in the production. She will be part of a small cast that will portray an afternoon with the symphony explaining different Christmas traditions from around the world.
鈥淭he RSO does a Christmas show every year that鈥檚 directed towards younger kids,鈥� explained Jayda, noting the performance will be held at the Riddell Theatre.
The event, entitled, 鈥淎 Flicker of Light on a Winter鈥檚 Night鈥�, tells the story of how a mysterious stranger helps three disgruntled children discover the true spirit of the holidays by weaving a tale about many of the best-loved traditions.
These range from Christmas trees to dreidels, from Santa Claus to Scrooge. The performance by the RSO will include popular favourites, traditional music and plenty of sing-alongs for the whole family to enjoy.
There will be preshow activities for families to take part in starting at 2 p.m., and the concert will begin at 3 p.m.
Tickets are $32 for adult and $15 for children, and have been selling fast online on the RSO website. Jayda advised those interested in attending not to wait until the day of the production, but to buy the tickets in advance.
This is Jayda鈥檚 10th year with Do It With Class, and she is also involved at the Weyburn Comp in the Rise Choir and the jazz band. (In the second photo shown above, she is singing with the Rise choir at the recent fowl supper)
She will be part of two productions with Do It With Class this year, as they will put on 鈥淎s You Like It鈥� and a stage version of 鈥淢atilda鈥�.
Jayda has enjoyed the singing and acting she has been able to do with the group, and said the skills she鈥檚 learned helps her in other areas of her life.
鈥淚t helps me in other ways, such as with public speaking,鈥� she said. 鈥淚 love the feeling you get after rehearsing something for months, and then you get to perform it for an audience so everyone can see what you鈥檝e been working on.鈥�
