The Estevan Art Gallery and Museum will have a few new additions for the rest of the summer.

The 20 young people in the EAGM鈥檚 Forts, Flags and Fortresses camp created their own flags at the camp, which ran from July 23-26. Those flags will now hang in front of the EAGM for the rest of the summer.

Raven Broster-Paradis, who is the educator at the EAGM, said they like to have one project that they work on throughout the week for each of their four summer camps, and in the case of last week鈥檚 camp, they wanted to make official-sized flags.

鈥淚t was something to get them really working as a team. We really tried to emphasize a lot of teamwork this week,鈥 said Broster-Paradis.

Camp organizers allowed the kids to have some creative freedom, but they had to promote art in some way, whether it be through the images on the flags themselves, or through a slogan.

鈥淥ne of the flags is just a bunch of things that the kids really liked in the group 鈥 to draw when they鈥檙e just doodling, and then they have a little caption on there that says 鈥淎rt can be anything,鈥欌 said Broster-Paradis.

Another flag had dragons because they all drew really impressive dragons, with a cutline of 鈥淓verybody can make art.鈥

There were also flags that had sports and space themes.

鈥淚 think that the kids put a lot of time and effort into them. They turned out beautifully. They鈥檙e super colourful, and the kids had a lot of fun making them too. So we鈥檙e just really proud of what they made, and we鈥檙e happy to have them on display for the summer for all the parents and all of the city to see.鈥

The flags were raised at a ceremony on Thursday morning at the EAGM. City Councillor Shelly Veroba was on hand to help with the ceremony.听听

Young people also enjoyed an archaeology dig and games during the camp.
