麻豆视频east Saskatchewan artists had their talents on display Saturday during the Estevan Arts Council鈥檚 Ev Johnson Memorial Adjudicated Art Show at the Estevan Leisure Centre鈥檚 multipurpose room.
Estevan鈥檚 Cheryl Andrist and Wolseley鈥檚 Marilyn Malo were selected as the co-winners from a field of nine artists. The other participating artists were Ken Frederickson, Kayla Hanson, Sadie Huber, Ruth Langwieser, Nancy Samoluk, Melina Shepley and Katie Wempe.
Sylvia Ziemann was the adjudicator this year. She said it was very difficult to select a winner from this year鈥檚 show. Ultimately, she went with two, because both Malo and Andrist deal with fabric in their works, and Ziemann thought they would look good together in a joint exhibit.
鈥淭here鈥檚 a lot of quality and a lot of effort here, but a lot of different levels,鈥 said Ziemann. 鈥淵ou have kids from school, you have people who have been in it for 40 years, and other people who have just discovered their passion. There are so many different levels, and it was so hard to pick, because I would have picked five winners.鈥
Frederickson and Langwieser were selected as the runner-ups. Ziemann was also pleased to see some young people in this year鈥檚 show in Wempe and Huber.
鈥淭hey had to come and put themselves out there. That鈥檚 hard to do when you鈥檙e a young person. They competed with the adults.鈥 聽
Andrist and Malo will have a joint exhibit at the Estevan Art Gallery and Museum next November.
Each of the nine artists had to submit five selections from a particular medium pertaining to the particular theme or subject.
The art show is named after Evelyn Johnson, who was a big part of the arts scene in the Estevan area for many years.聽
The next edition of the Mercury will have more on this story.
