Local young people will get the chance to showcase their theatre skills during a visit by the Missoula Children’s Theatre next month.

The Snow Queen will be performed on Sept. 22 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Souris Valley Theatre’s Frehlick Hall. The appearance by the children’s theatre will be through the Estevan Arts Council’s Koncerts for Kids series.

The show takes people on a journey with fun-loving Hobgoblins to the land of coloured ice as they tell the tale of a young girl and her quest to find her best friend. Audience members might find themselves believing in malevolent mirrors, yetis, talking reindeer and snow chickens.

More than 50 local students will be part of this musical adaptation of the Snow Queen.

An audition will be held for the production on Sept. 17 at 4 p.m. at Westview School. Those auditioning should arrive 10-15 minutes early and plan to stay for the full two hours. Some of the cast members will be asked to stay for a rehearsal immediately following the audition.

Approximately 50-60 roles are available for local students. All students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 are encouraged to audition. No advance preparation is necessary. Most young people rehearse approximately four hours and 15 minutes each day,Ìýfrom Monday through Friday, so that the show will be ready to be performed on Sept. 22.

Tickets for the performance are $7 for all ages, except three and under, who are free, and are available in advance at Henders Drugs or the Estevan Arts Council’s office inside the Estevan Leisure Centre.

The Snow Queen is part of the Missoula Children's Theatre’s international touring project.
