Estevan will be host to a one-night fundraiser, aiming to help those who are much less fortunate than many Canadians find themselves.

The Duelling Pianos fundraiser will be held at the Power Dodge Curling Centre on Sept. 8, with doors opening at 6 p.m. The event will feature a supper, a 50/50 raffle and of course the Duelling Pianos.

Annette Kendall, one of the people responsible for the fundraiser's organization, said that they just wanted to do what was right, and help those living in a world much different to our own.

鈥淭he fundraiser that we are hosting is just to raise money for a centre for education and dialogue in Cuernavaca, Mexico,鈥 said Kendall.

The idea originated from a mission trip organized through the Regina-based Archbishop Charles Halpin Centre for Education and Dialogue, which involved several members of the Estevan and Regina communities travelling to Mexico to assist with the construction of the centre. Cuernavaca is the capital of Mexico鈥檚 Morelos state, located south of Mexico City.

鈥淢y husband and I went to Cuernavaca in January of this year, along with a few other people from Estevan,鈥 said Kendall.

鈥淲e visited for 10 days and worked while we were there. We just kind of wanted to do this fundraiser as a way of doing something to continue with the projects that we started when we visited. They are building a whole centre to educate people in the community and we just wanted to continue what was started.鈥

Tickets for the event are on sale now, and are priced at $100 per ticket, which will allow entry to the event and Duelling Pianos, as well as a supper.

Tickets can be purchased through Kendall鈥檚 Supply, or by contacting Randy Franke at 306-41-2244. Sales will continue until Sept. 1.

鈥淚t would be nice if we could raise $20,000 for the project, but it all depends on what our ticket sales are like,鈥 said Kendall.

鈥淲e are selling tickets individually as well as corporate tickets for tables. We will also probably allow people in around 8 or 9 p.m. for a minimal cost for those who are only able to attend the event later in the evening.鈥

Doors for the fundraiser will open at 6 p.m., with cocktails beginning at the same time, followed by supper at 7 p.m. and the Duelling Pianos beginning at 8:30 p.m.

The event is adults only, for those 19 and older.

鈥淲e just wanted to do a fun event, for Estevan, for people to come out and have a nice supper and a good time and raise money for a great cause at the same time,鈥 said Kendall.

鈥淲e just want to raise money to help a community that鈥檚 much less fortunate than we are, we just thought to ourselves that was the right thing to do.鈥
