The Estevan Public Library (EPL) hosted a Day at the Library on Feb. 20. The one-day program gave young visitors an opportunity to try numerous learning and playing options the EPL offers on daily basis.
EPL branch manager Lucas Reid explained how the activity was organized.
鈥淜ids could register to come in and basically spend a day at the library, as the title suggests, from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. She (library children鈥檚 program co-ordinator Christine Batke) had a group of kids come in, and they seemed to have a lot of fun. She had a lot of programs set out for them for the entire day,鈥 Reid said.
Little kids aged six-10 had a chance to learn some big concepts as they received some basic knowledge about coding and also were introduced to 3-D printing.
鈥淪ome of the highlights of the day was 3-D printing. I always love when we get to do that and utilize that service that we have in the library. And that鈥檚 something that鈥檚 not always available to that young of an age group because it鈥檚 really difficult for (people) that young,鈥 said Batke.
Yet the most important objective was to highlight the palette of opportunities for learning that the EPL offers to residents.
鈥淭hey got to see so much in one day,鈥 said Batke.
Attending children had their lunch at the library as well. After all, Batke said this busy day turned out to be a great experience.
鈥淚 think it was really good. The kids loved it. They said 鈥業t was the best day-camp ever.鈥 We had a lot of fun; it brought in different dynamics that we would normally get to our programs, so it was good to see it too,鈥 said Batke.
This particular Day at the Library was a new activity, but the library tries to offer other full-day programs every so often. Every time they come up with some new ideas for their little participants.
鈥淚 think having these larger programs, it鈥檚 fun for the patrons, it鈥檚 something different that we can offer and it鈥檚 a promotion for the library,鈥 Reid said.
