The new stage at the Woodlawn Regional Park鈥檚 Boundary Dam beach site is virtually complete, and the park鈥檚 staff and board members are optimistic the stage will make a big difference. 聽
The overall cost of the stage was around $30,000. Woodlawn spent $10,000, and received a matching grant from the Community Initiatives Fund to complete the stage鈥檚 structure. Local businesses provided work in-kind donations.聽
The steel beams, screw piles, flooring and wiring were finished last year. The steel structure was recently completed.聽
鈥淚t鈥檚 exciting and it鈥檚 new,鈥 said park manager Aaron-Lee Soparlo. 鈥淚t鈥檚 the only one out here, nobody else has an outdoor stage. It brings lots of opportunities for the area, for 鈥 tourism, for the community, for the park itself to host different events.鈥
The stage measures 40 feet long and 20 feet wide. The steel structure is between 30 to 40 feet high.
It would likely be too late for the park to host any outdoor events this year, but Soparlo said they would like to have some next year.聽
An event like Beach Bash would be able to use the stage for its entertainment. And community groups could use the stage for their functions.
Soparlo said the park has been working on the stage for about two years.聽
鈥淭his was something that we wanted to do,鈥 said Soparlo. 鈥淲ith Beach Bash, that was a spark with us wanting to have outdoor concerts. And then it just leads to other things, other events I鈥檇 like to see hosted out there.鈥
The park could make some future additions to the stage, such as lighting and skirting, but they are excited to have the structure complete and for the opportunities it will create in the future.
