The Estevan Kinettes Club鈥檚 annual Day of Kindness brought a lot of good to the community as members travelled around the city, doing large and small acts of good for others.

They meet at Tim Hortons at 10 a.m., and after about 30 minutes, they had figured out where they wanted to go and spread acts of kindness.

鈥淭he places we visited were Creighton Lodge, Affinity Place, the mall, St. Joseph鈥檚 Hospital long-term care facility and the maternity ward,鈥 said Kristol Nagy, a member of the Kinettes. 鈥淎t the mall we handed out some Bruin game tickets and we put some coins in the candy machines and in some of the massage chairs.鈥

The Kinettes Day of Kindness is never planned. Members just drop in to do some nice things for people. The residents at Creighton Lodge, for example, were certainly surprised when a group of Kinettes showed up to hand out flowers to residents.

鈥淗anding out flowers to residents has always been more about a quick visit with each person, because some of them don鈥檛 get a lot of visitors and we like to bring a smile to people鈥檚 faces,鈥 said Nagy.

鈥淭his year, for our hospital and other visits in the community, we made some goody bags with candies, activity books and socks with chap stick in each bag, and people really seemed to like that,鈥 she added.

The Kinettes and Kinsmen Day of Kindness has being going for a number of years. The Kinsmen were out on Fed. 23 dropping off lunches to people at Estevan Diversified Services.

鈥淭he Kinsmen and Kinettes take part across Canada with this event on the same day to bring random acts of kindness to people and bring some awareness to the community of our club by doing kind gestures by the community,鈥 she said.

Each year that goes by, some money is always put aside for special activities, including the Day of Kindness.

鈥淲e allocate a bit of money in our budget every year to make the Day of Kindness happen. Other than that, we try and do what we can to help out the community,鈥 said Nagy.

鈥淲e like to surprise people wherever we can, in accordance to what fits in our budget. Additionally we do acts of kindness for all age groups and we always find lots of hugs, smiles and sometimes even tears, it is a truly great event to have,鈥 she added.
