Multiple collisions, fires for Estevan firefighters in early July

Two calls on July 1 started a busy few days.

ESTEVAN — Members of the Estevan Fire Rescue Service (EFRS) handled three collisions, two fires and a carbon monoxide alarm last week.

At 5:51 p.m. on July 1, members were dispatched to a vehicle fire south of the city. Firefighters responded and found a fully-engulfed vehicle with the fire spreading into the grass. Crews quickly extinguished the fire and contained the grass fire to the area. No injuries were reported from the incident, but according to the fire department, the vehicle was severely damaged. The cause of the incident is believed to be accidental.

Also on July 1, at 10:45 p.m., members were dispatched to a two-vehicle collision southeast of the city. Crews responded and assisted. According to the EFRS, no injuries were reported and minor damage occurred to the vehicles. The incident appeared to be minor and is being investigated by the RCMP.

On July 2 at 9:40 p.m., the EFRS was dispatched to a vehicle versus deer incident north of the city. Crews responded and assisted. No injuries reported and the EFRS said minor damage occurred to the vehicle.

The fire department was dispatched to a vehicle versus bicycle collision July 3 at 5:30 p.m. southeast Estevan. Crews responded and assisted. The EFRS said minor injuries were reported from the incident.

That same day, at 10:02 p.m., the EFRS was dispatched to a residential carbon monoxide (CO) alarm in northeast Estevan. Crews responded and assisted. Upon investigation, moderate levels of CO were detected in a structure. SaskEnergy was asked to attend the scene and was able to find the cause, which was an issue with HVAC equipment. Crews ventilated the structure. The homeowner was asked to reach out to a contractor to have issues repaired. No reports of injuries or illness stemmed from the incident.

On July 4 at 11:36 p.m., the EFRS was dispatched for a grass fire southeast of the city. Crews responded, and quickly contained and extinguished fire. No reported injuries or damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
