Estevan, Weyburn gear up for Golden Garbage Can judging day

Judges and criteria have been announced as Estevan and Weyburn get ready for Golden Garbage Can Judging Day, a friendly fight for civic pride.

ESTEVAN & WEYBURN — The friendly rivalry between Estevan and Weyburn is heating up with the return of the Golden Garbage Can competition on June 9.

This annual challenge celebrates community pride, cleanliness and beautification efforts in both cities — with one municipality walking away with bragging rights and the coveted golden trophy.

This year’s judging panel features a balanced mix of community leaders and local advocates from each city:

• Wendy Clark - Estevan Garden Club Representative

• Jacquelyn Massey-Rounds - Marketing & Communications Manager, City of Estevan

• Merissa Scarlett - Executive Director, Estevan Chamber of Commerce.

• Deanna Colbow – VP, Weyburn Horticultural Society

• Paige Tenbult – Communications Coordinator, City of Weyburn

Tentative Schedule – June 9

• 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. | Judging in Estevan

• 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. | Judging in Weyburn

• 3:30 p.m. (subject to change): Crowning of the Golden Garbage Can winner at Weyburn City Hall

 

Judging Criteria Judges will assess each city using a 1 to 5 scoring system (1 – Needs Work, 5 – Outstanding) across a variety of categories, including:

• Community Gateways

• Public Buildings & Facilities

• Parks, Trails & Green Spaces

• School Properties

• Fairgrounds & Event Areas

• Downtown & Commercial Areas

• Residential Streets

• Potential Problem Areas/Hazards

• Overall Visual Impact

• Community Creativity & Effort (bonus points)
