ESTEVAN — The annual Coal Country Run/Walk once again brought out a lot of people to support the Fresh Air Fitness outdoor fitness site.
The event was held May 10 at Woodlawn Regional Park. Participants gathered at Rotary Hall for socializing, registration and to warm up. They then walked or ran a distance of five or 10 kilometres on a warm morning.
Michelle Beaulieu had the fastest time in the women's 5K at 28:33, just ahead of Jessica Browns' 28:56. Both were entered in the age 31-40 division. Tracy Hunt, who won the 41-50 women's 5K division, had the third-best time overall at 30:39.
Tomasz Szlapacki, competing in the 51-60 division, had the fastest time in the five-kilometre men's division at 21 minutes and 31 seconds, finishing ahead of Ajax Longman, who was in the the under-20 division and had a time of 22:01, and Jon Bath, who was first in the 31-40 division with a time of 27:49.
Kendra Jones was first in the women's 10K at 48:47, ahead of Julie Thoring (51:38) and Kaila Thomson (51:45). The top three finishers in the women's 10K were in the 31-40 age group.
Daryl Donovan had the overall fastest 10K men's time at 40 minutes, followed by Levi Rosenbaum (45:37) and Cody Thoring (48:30). They were all in the 31-40 age group.
Other first-place finishers in the women's 5K division were Brinley Wilson (under-20, 31:23); Katelyn Hutt (20-30, 33:39); Kim Pastachak (51-60, 34:36); and Wendy Walliser (61 and over, 42:54).
In the women's 10K, the other winners were Emma Bastiaansen (20-30, 56:25); Jennifer Olfert (41-50, 1:01.45); and Karen Becker (61 and over, 1:07:14).
First-place finishers in the men's 5K division were Braydon Krahn (20-30, 32:15); and Riley Horton (41-50, 33:11).
Other first place finishers in the men's 10K were Rik Bastiaansen (20-30, 52:41); Brent Olfert (41-50, 56:3), and Dave Rosenbaum (61-and-over, 1:00:09).
A total of 110 athletes were registered.
Once the five and the 10-kilometre participants were finished, the kids' mini mile took place. Each of the youth participants received a medal, a polished stone from Tumble Stone Jewellery, a certificate, a free ice cream from A Cherry on Top, a snack pack from the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµern Plains Co-op. and free use of the bouncy castles and water sprinkler.
