SASKATOON — A teenage boy is facing multiple firearm-related charges following a tense encounter with police in Saskatoon on May 22.
Officers were called to the 2200 block of Rusholme Road shortly before 4 p.m. after a report of a person armed with a shotgun. Upon arrival, they located a 16-year-old male who was confirmed to be carrying a sawed-off shotgun.
Police said the youth refused to comply with commands and attempted to load the weapon. A physical struggle ensued before officers were able to take him into custody. Investigators believe the teen was under the influence of an intoxicant at the time.
The youth is now facing several charges, including:
- Carrying a firearm in a careless manner
- Possession of a firearm without a licence
- Possession of a loaded prohibited weapon
- Possession of a weapon while prohibited
- Failure to comply with court-imposed conditions (two counts)
No injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.
