Wheels of the bus go round new routes in Saskatoon

Three Saskatoon malls host public session on upcoming changes to Saskatoon bus routes, effective June 29.

SASKATOON — Saskatoon residents will be embracing change as the wheels of the bus go round and round on different routes across the city.

Saskatoon Transit is implementing service changes starting June 29. Routes 8, 13, 16, 17, 18, 81, 82, 84 and 86 will now be delivering more reliable, connected direct service, as outlined in several public come-and-go sessions around Saskatoon.

The sessions were set up to educate riders about new routes, service adjustments, frequency changes and other important updates that may affect daily commutes.

City transit officials participated in three sessions, held at Market Mall on June 10, Centre Mall on June 12 and Lawson Heights Mall on June 17.

Daily commuters, occasional riders and other members of the public were eager to learn more about Saskatoon's transit developments.

The routing and service changes, set to take effect June 29, are aimed at enhancing frequency and reliability, streamlining the network, and improving connections to key destinations such as schools, hospitals, shopping centres and the University of Saskatchewan.

City transit officials told attendees that buses will arrive more frequently and on time, giving customers more travel options and increased reliability.

The City of Saskatoon's website, saskatoontransit.ca/experiencetransit, offers a detailed rundown of all the bus routes that are changing.

For example, Route 17 from the Lawson Heights bus station will now provide north-south travel between Lawson Heights, the university and Stonebridge. New evening and weekend service will also be offered. Route 13 will be removed and replaced by the now-expanded Route 17.

Some participants raised questions not only about the upcoming route changes but also about LINK, the rapid transit system currently in development for Saskatoon.
