Craft council celebrates record-breaking year for Dimensions exhibit

A record-breaking number of SK artists are vying for top honours in Dimensions 2025, the province鈥檚 premier juried exhibition.

SASKATOON — The Saskatchewan Craft Council’s Dimensions exhibition is set to return with a record-breaking number of submissions and a packed lineup of public events this spring and summer.

A cornerstone of the Craft Council’s programming for more than 50 years, Dimensions is a juried exhibition that honours excellence in handcrafted artwork. Open to all craftspeople in Saskatchewan, the show highlights contemporary fine craft in a range of media.

This year’s exhibition saw an all-time high of 222 submissions from artists across the province. Jurors Brendan Lee Satish Tang and Wally Dion, both prominent figures in the North American contemporary craft community, have shortlisted 60 works. The final jury selections will be made during an in-person session on May 8 and 9.

Until then, the 60 shortlisted pieces are on display at the Saskatchewan Craft Council Gallery, located at 813 Broadway Ave. in Saskatoon. The gallery is hosting a free public reception on Friday, May 2 from 5 to 8 p.m., welcoming art lovers to preview the shortlisted works. Due to the exhibition’s blind jury process, artist names will be kept confidential until after final selections are made. Credits will be added online and in the gallery after May 10.

The final list of selected pieces and winners of the Dimensions 2025 Awards will be unveiled during a sold-out event on Saturday, May 10 at 2 p.m. at the Remai Modern in Saskatoon. The event, which will be livestreamed on YouTube, includes over $15,000 in prize money and features presentations from both jurors on their personal artistic practices.

Following the announcement, the full Dimensions 2025 exhibition will remain on display at the SCC Gallery from May 31 to Aug. 23. An exhibition reception is scheduled for Saturday, July 26.
