REGINA — The Royal Saskatchewan Museum (RSM) is featuring several events, recognizing National Indigenous History Month and National Indigenous Peoples Day.
Canada designated June as National Indigenous History Month in 2009 and June 21 as National Indigenous Peoples Day back in 1996 to honour the history, heritage and culture of Indigenous people.
Those visiting the RSM could take part in activities on Friday, including beading, bison hunt activities, touch table exploring bison artifacts and more.
Minister of Parks, Culture and Sport Alana Ross, who took part in these activities, stressed the importance of engaging children with Indigenous history.
”It becomes part of the natural understanding of who we are as people in Saskatchewan and the importance [of] that.”
Ross believes the younger people are exposed to history, culture, and society the better
