Raise awareness, inspire action and strengthen efforts is the message from Sexual Assault Services of Saskatchewan.

REGINA — May 2025 is Sexual Violence Prevention Month in Saskatchewan in partnership with Sexual Assault Services of Saskatchewan.

Sexual Violence Prevention Month is a collaborative approach between Sexual Assault Services of Saskatchewan and the Government of Saskatchewan that unites communities, government agencies and advocacy groups in a shared mission to end sexual violence in Saskatchewan.

"Sexual Violence Prevention Month is a time to raise awareness, inspire action and strengthen our efforts to end sexual violence in Saskatchewan," Sexual Assault Services of Saskatchewan Executive Director Kerrie Isaac said.

"With our province facing one of the highest rates in Canada, it's critical to address root causes like addiction, which is closely linked to sexual violence. We call on communities, government and advocacy groups to work together for real prevention and support."

In 2025-26, government will allocate $31.7 million to interpersonal violence programs and services through the justice system. This includes $328,000 for second-stage housing and an additional $720,000 for community-based organizations, including those that deliver supports and services to individuals and families impacted by interpersonal violence, including sexual and physical violence.

Government supports a variety of programs and initiatives to address and reduce sexual violence across the province, including:

  • Sexual Violence Services: Government provides $1.8 million in funding to eight sexual violence service organizations in Saskatchewan, which provide counselling and support to adult victims of sexual violence and promote public safety throughout the province.
  • 211 Saskatchewan: Government collaborates with and provides funding to 211 Saskatchewan to support its role as a 24/7 service referral platform for situations involving interpersonal violence and abuse, including sexual violence and human trafficking.
  • Victim Advocate Case Reviews: Victim Advocate Case Reviews are a collaborative process that allow community experts to work with police agencies on closed sexual assault files to identify opportunities to improve investigation outcomes in cases of sexual violence.
The province has partnered with the following organizations to support victim advocate case reviews in their communities:
    • Regina: Moose Jaw Police Service and Regina and Area Sexual Assault Centre.
    • Moose Jaw: Moose Jaw Police Service, Moose Jaw Transition House, Regina and Area Sexual Assault Centre.
    • Prince Albert: Prince Albert Police Service and Prairie Mobile Crisis Unit
  • Provincial Coordination Services: Government has partnered with the Provincial Association of Transition Houses, Sexual Assault Services of Saskatchewan and STOPS to Violence to coordinate responses to interpersonal violence, including sexual violence, across the province.
  • In 2024-25, the Government of Saskatchewan released a new public awareness campaign that focused on raising awareness of human trafficking in the province. Posters were placed in public sites across the province to connect with individuals who are most at risk or being trafficked.
