“We are pleased to have seen so many people engaged in the election process, from the number of candidates vying for seats to the high number of young people casting their ballots for the first time,” said MN–S President Glen McCallum.

WHITECAP DAKOTA FIRST NATION — Friends and family watched as the newly elected members of the Métis Nation–Saskatchewan (MN–S) government officially took their oaths of office Tuesday afternoon during a special swearing-in ceremony.

The 2025 MN–S Election was held throughout May with election day May 24. Métis citizens voted for four executive positions and 12 regional directors. The new make-up of the Provincial Métis Council (PMC) is:

President - Glen McCallum

Secretary - Marlene Hansen

Western Region I – Loretta King

Western Region IA - Billy Kennedy

Western Region II - Sherry McLennan

Western Region IIA – Beverley Fullerton

Western Region III – Wendy Gervais

Eastern Region I – Ryan Carriere Eastern

Region IIA – Darcy Lepowick

Eastern Region III – Marg Friesen

Northern Region I – Laura Burnouf Northern Region II – Leonard Montgrand

Northern Region III – Brennan Merasty

Three PMC positions are subject to judicial recounts, so a separate swearing-in will be held after official results are declared by the chief electoral officer.

In his welcoming remarks, third-term MN–S President Glen McCallum said, “We are pleased to have seen so many people engaged in the election process, from the number of candidates vying for seats to the high number of young people casting their ballots for the first time.

“People are paying attention, and rightfully so. The MN–S government’s track record speaks for itself. In the last eight years, we’ve established strong partnerships, demonstrated success in many areas, and continue to progress toward self-determination. With distinctions-based programs and services that help ensure our Métis identity, culture, values, and language are preserved for generations, we look forward to the next four years.”

The new PMC has already gone through initial onboarding and high-priority technical briefings and is ready to get right to work.

The first official PMC meeting is June 25 at 9 a.m. and will be live-streamed . That sets the stage for the first of two Métis Nation Legislative Assembly (MNLA) gatherings before the end of the year, September and November.
