Macklin teen gets drafted in first round by Calgary Flames

Cole Reschny was the 18th overall drafted player in the 2025-26 NHL draft.

MACKLIN — Cole Reschny is the name on all hockey fans’ lips after being selected 18th overall in the 2025–26 NHL draft. He was picked up by the Calgary Flames in the first round.

The Macklin native, who is 18, has been a powerhouse on the ice. He moved quickly through the leagues, playing with the U18 AAA Saskatoon Blazers before advancing to WHL’s Victoria Royals.

According to NHL Central Scouting, Reschny was ranked as the 25th-best skater in North America.

Over the past year with the Royals, Reschny led the team in scoring, recording 26 goals, 66 assists and a total of 92 points.
