Some of the best youth softball players from Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan will be competing at Battleford Flats Park this weekend.
Nine girls teams and six boys teams will be in town starting Friday as they compete in the Western Canadian U14 Softball Championships.
The Battleford Bandits are the host team in the girls’ division, and will be taking to the diamond at 8 a.m. Friday as they’ll face the Sherwood Park Storm.
The remainder of their schedule for the opening day of the tournament will see them play the Manitoba Thunder at 2 p.m. and the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Delta Invaders at 6:30 p.m., in a game that will immediately follow the opening ceremonies.
Also competing are the Unity Panthers, as they’ll play their first game of the weekend Friday at noon against the Surrey Storm.
Their other game that day is slated for 4 p.m. against the Sherwood Park Storm.
The Alameda Super Novas, Lloydminster Liners and Westman Magic round out the field in the girls’ division.
The boys’ division will take to the field at 9 a.m. Friday, as the Shellbrook Rangers take on the Barriere Bruins while the Irma Tigers will matchup with the Delisle Diamond Dogs.
The Warman Panthers and Cross Lake Wolves are also competing in the event.
Round-robin games will continue through Sunday afternoon, with the semi-final games taking place Sunday at 6 p.m.
The bronze medal contests will occur at 10 a.m. Monday, while the championship games will be held at 1 p.m.
Tickets for the entire weekend are $25, while daily tickets are $10 each.
Kids 12 and under get in for free and a twilight pass for games taking place after 5 p.m. costs $5.
