It was a middling week for nearly all of Humboldt’s Thunder softball squads, as they combined to finish the week with a record of 5-5-1.
With playoffs just two weeks away, each of Humboldt’s squads were looking to improve their position heading into the playoffs.
Midget/Bantam 1 Thunder
The Midget/Bantam 1 Thunder were a perfect example of how the week went for Humboldt’s softball teams, as they managed to split their two contests.
The Thunder kicked off their week with a critical 10-9 win over Wadena, giving the Thunder wins in three of their last four contests.
Unfortunately, the Thunder could not keep the momentum rolling against league leading Muenster, as they suffered a 13-3 loss.
Thanks to their 1-1 week the Thunder improved to 6-4 on the season, good enough for second place.
Midget/Bantam 2 Thunder
The Midget/Bantam 2 Thunder enjoyed nearly an identical week to their Humboldt 1 counterparts, as they finished the week with a 0-1-1 record.
The week got off to an interesting start for the Thunder as they played well defensively but could not generate enough offense, resulting in a 2-2 tie with Watrous.
The final contest of the week did not go quite so well for the Thunder as their offense came alive piling up 10 runs, but they could not keep their opponents off the board this time, as they fell 16-10 to Wynyard.
Thanks to the tough week the Thunder see their record fall to 4-4-1 on the season, good enough for fourth in the league standings.
Peewee Thunder
It was an excellent week for the peewee Thunder as they picked up wins in each of their two contests.
The Thunder kicked off their week with an offensive bang as they piled up a season-high 27 runs in a 27-11 beat down of Wynyard.
Despite the excellent night offensively, the Thunder were able to nearly match that output again in their final game of the week as they piled up 21 more runs, this time narrowly picking up a win as they edged past Watrous 2 21-18.
With the two wins the Thunder improve their record to 6-3 on the season, good enough for fourth in the league.
Squirt Thunder
It was a quiet but tough week for the Squirt Thunder as they played just once, falling 22-14 to Naicam.
With the loss the Thunder saw their record fall to 1-6 on the season, good enough for ninth in league standings.
Mite 1 Thunder
Following in the footsteps of the Peewee Thunder, it was a solid week for the Mite 1 Thunder as they picked up wins in each of their two contests.
The Thunder kicked off their week on a high note as they relied heavily on their offense in a 13-9 win over Muenster.
The final game of the week featured a much quieter night offensively from both the Thunder and their opponents as the teams combined for just ten runs in the Thunder’s 7-3 win over Watrous.
With the wins the Thunder improve their record to 7-1 on the season, good enough for first place.
Mite 2 Thunder
While the Mite 1 Thunder were enjoying an excellent week, their Mite 2 counterparts were seeing much less success as they dropped each of their two contests.
The Thunder kicked off their week on a low note as they struggled to keep Wadena off the board in an 8-5 loss.
After struggling defensively against Wadena, it was the Thunder offense that gave them the most trouble in their final contest of the week as they fell 7-3 to Wynyard.
With the back-to-back losses the Thunder saw their record fall to 3-7 on the season, good enough for sixth place in the league standings.
