MELFORT — Hope for a third period comeback was crushed for the Melfort Mustangs as the Battlefords' North Stars used the final minutes of the game to sew up a win.

In the first game of the finals on April 12, the Mustangs were defeated 6-2.

In the first period, the Mustangs outshot Battlefords 12 to 8, but nothing went past the North Stars' netminder, Joel Grzybowski, nor past Mustang Noah Giesbrecht.

The situation reversed itself in the second period, as Battlefords outshot the Mustangs 14 to 7. This time, shots made by Battlefords' Noah Form and Ryan Gil made their mark, bringing the score to 2-0.

A wild third period began with Melfort's Jake Hobson scoring a point for his team early on. That was answered by a goal halfway through by the Battlefords' Owen Lamb. Tyson Meyers then scored for Melfort at the 12-minute mark.

In the last two minutes of play, Battlefords scored three goals: one by Macgregor Sinclair, an empty-netter by Quintin Loon-Stewardson, and one by Dayton Heino to seal the deal. Both teams made 16 shots on each other's nets.
