Hockey is the farthest thing from anyone's mind in Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League circles following Friday's tragic accident involving the Humboldt Broncos that killed 15and injured 14.
"The worst nightmare has happened," SJHL president Bill Chow said Saturday at a press conference in Humboldt.
"As a league, we will support Humboldt in every way possible and rest of the league will do the same going forward."
When asked if the playoffs will continue, Chow said discussions on that haven't taken place.
"Whatever decision we make, we're going to do what is in the best interest of those involved," Chow said.
"At the end of the day, what we're going to do is what we think is right."
The Broncos were heading up to Nipawin for the fifth game in a semifinal matchup against the Hawks, who led the series 3-1.
The Estevan Bruins are already locked in the league final after defeating the Battlefords North Stars Thursday.
鈥淭here鈥檚 too many young people affected and families affected,鈥 Bruins general manager and head coach Chris Lewgood told Corey Atkinson of the Estevan Mercury Saturday.
鈥淚t鈥檚 just such a tragedy and obviously we鈥檙e thinking of those who have been affected directly and who have lost somebody or have been severely injured.鈥
It was an emotional scene in Moose Jaw Friday night, as players from the Moose Jaw Warriors and Swift Current Broncos found out what happened in the accidents following their Western Hockey League quarter-final game.
"I don't have any words, my stomach is just in knots," Warriors forward and Oxbow native Tanner Jeannot said.
"I played against some of those guys growing up, I don't know any of them personally, but it just puts it in perspective, and my heart and everyone in the room there, we're all sending prayers to the families of all those players. It's a tragedy."
