Good news keeps coming to graduating members of the Humboldt Broncos after Nick Shumlanski announced his commitment to the University of Prince Edward Island beginning in the fall.听

Shumlanski becomes the fourth member of the 2017-2018 Humboldt Broncos to announce his post-secondary commitment, joining Kaleb Dahlgren (York University), Matthieu Gomercic (University of Ontario Institute of Technology), and Bryce Fiske (UOIT).听
听
鈥淚 was really interested to go out east all winter,鈥 said Shumlanski in an interview with The Guardian.听
听
The 21-year-old Tisdale native joins the UPEI program after appearing in 175 junior hockey games split between the Flin Flon Bombers and the Broncos.听
听
The 5鈥7鈥 forward racked up 50 goals, 98 assists, 148 points and 213 penalty minutes in parts of five seasons in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.听
听
In 43 playoff games Shumlanski added eight goals, 17 assists, 25 points, and 26 penalty minutes.听

鈥(He鈥檚) very quick, turns on a dime, he competes very hard, plays with sandpaper. He plays with an edge,鈥 UPEI head coach Forbes MacPherson told The Guardian.听

鈥淲e鈥檙e looking to try and get back to a style of play that we鈥檝e had in previous years that I felt we got a little bit away from last year,鈥 MacPherson said. 鈥淎ll of the characteristics of (Nick鈥檚) game, fit the mould we鈥檙e looking for.鈥

Of course the jump from junior A to U Sports is a significant one and Shumlanski admitted to The Guardian that it would be tough to leave home.听

鈥淚t鈥檚 harder now to move so far from home because I am going to miss my family a lot and my friends,鈥 he said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a big step in my life.鈥

Shumlanski is expected to move to Charlottetown in late August, and told The Guardian that he is looking forward to it.听

鈥淚鈥檓 excited to play again,鈥 he said. 鈥淚t will be nice to get back on the ice for some real hockey.鈥
