The Battlefords Sharks were in action for their first two home games of the season this weekend at Battleford Arena against the Regina Rebels.
The Sharks had opened their female AAA midget hockey season a week earlier with a successful two-game sweep in Wilcox over Notre Dame Hounds, and they got off to an good early start in their Saturday night game versus the Rebels.
Keara Amson scored from Landry Derdall with just three seconds left in the first period to put the Sharks ahead 1-0.
But the lead did not last. Goals from Kennedy Bobyck and Lilla Carpenter-Boesch put the Rebels in front, and they added two more in the third for a 4-1 win.
The teams met again Sunday afternoon, but again the Sharks had difficulties holding off the Rebels as they took a 3-0 lead.
Goals in the first from Kelsey Davies and Taylor Gravelle made it 2-0, then a Brooke Pellerin goal made it 3-0 in the second period.
But with 2:26 remaining, the Sharks got on the board with Maya Tupper scoring from Taylor Fiske and Jordan Kulbida. The score was 3-1 through two periods.
Early on in the third, Brittany Yeager cut the margin to 3-2 with Tupper assisting. But Regina got one back on a goal from Carpenter-Boesch, and then added a fifth goal from Lonna Nohnychuk with 3:34 remaining to finally put the game out of reach for the home side.
The final score was 5-2. Shots on goal favoured the Rebels by a 40-25 margin.
The Sharks now have some time off before their next game Oct. 21 in Prince Albert against the Bears.
