Fans at the Whitney Forum were witnesses to an excellent goaltending duel Saturday evening between Justen Close of the Kindersley Klippers and Brenden Newton of the Flin Flon Bombers.
After making 49 saves over the course of 65 minutes of action, Close got the upper hand in the shootout as he stopped all three shooters to give the Klippers a 2-1 road win Saturday night.
Newton turned aside 46 shots and stymied the first two Klippers shooters he faced before Josh Fletcher solved him to give the visitors the win.
Jordan Funk had the lone goal in regulation for the Klippers and Donavan Houle-Villeneuve replied for the Bombers, who saw their three-game win streak come to an end.
The Yorkton Terriers brought an end to their eight-game losing skid in style as they picked up a 5-2 victory over the Melville Millionaires in Yorkton.
William Brochu led the way with a pair of goals for the Terriers, while Jarid Mohart and Chantz Petruic had two assists each.
Mason Mullaney, Cody Bruchkowski and Charlie Risk also scored for the hosts in the win.
Ethan Cooney had a pair of assists in the loss for the Millionaires, who got their goals from Dayton Heino and Tucker Chapman.
After opening the SJHL season with eight straight wins, the Melfort Mustangs have lost their last two games.
Their most recent setback occurred at Crescent Point Place in Weyburn as defenceman Mike Eskra scored in overtime to give the Red Wings a 3-2 win.
Cole Woodliffe and Ben Hiltz had a goal and an assist to lead the way for the home side, while Zach Anderson and Kalem Zary replied for the Mustangs.
A four-goal opening frame proved to be the difference for the Nipawin Hawks as they picked up a 6-3 win over the Humboldt Broncos at the Centennial Arena.
Jordan Simoneau and Keillan Olson both scored twice for the Hawks, while Thomas Lenchyshyn and Josh McDougall each had a pair of assists.
Brett Harasymuk had a goal and an assist in the triumph, which also saw Jake Tremblay find the back of the net.
Jacob Leicht led the Broncos on offence with a goal and assist, while Logan Hunter and Logan Schatz also scored in the loss.
