Only a handful of medals are left to hand out at the Saskatchewan Winter Games following the second last day of competition Friday.

The host Rivers West team came with two bronze medals in the afternoon as Makwa’s Romy Schafer finished third in the 500m free technique sprints senior female event and the junior male table tennis team of Lloydminster’s Yby Lim and Meadow Lake’s Mason Gorski matched that result.

They sit fourth in the medal standings with 43 through five days of competition, as they’ve won 16 golds, 16 silvers and 11 bronzes.

Saskatoon has a commanding lead in the medal race with 85, with Regina and Prairie Central rounding out the top three with 56 and 48 each.

Two major team medals will be handed out Saturday as the female curling and hockey championship contests will take place.

The curling final, which will be held at the Twin Rivers Curling Club at noon, will see Madison Kleiter leading her Saskatoon rink against the Â鶹ÊÓƵ West squad skipped by Skylar Ackerman of Chamberlain.

Meanwhile, the Battleford Arena will play host to the hockey gold medal game at 11:30 a.m. between Prairie Central and Â鶹ÊÓƵ East.

The Saskatchewan Winter Games will conclude at 4 p.m. with the closing ceremonies taking place at the Civic Centre.
