vs. Saskatoon Diamonbacks
The week got off to a tough start for the Red Sox as they were shut out 4-0 by the Saskatoon Diamondbacks on June 5 in Muenster.
Josh Doepker and Jayden Huls finished with a hit each, the only two hits of the game for the Red Sox, as the pair smacked back-to-back no out singles in the fourth.
While the Red Sox were struggling offensively, they received a solid effort from starting pitcher Drew Bauml who allowed four runs, three earned, on five hits and five walks, while striking out four over 5.2 innings.
Nicholas Silcox came on in relief of Drew and allowed just one walk, while striking out two over the final 1.1 innings.
The Red Sox gave up three runs in the top half of the first inning to trail 3-0 before they even had a chance to bat.
The Diamondbacks tacked on another run in the third to take a 4-0 lead, and shut the game down the rest of the way to pick up the win.
vs. Saskatoon Giants
It was another tough night for the Red Sox as they were upended 9-6 by the Saskatoon Giants on June 7 in Saskatoon.
The Bauml boys led the way offensively for the Red Sox as Drew and Cody Bauml combined to bat 3-for-8 at the plate, with four runs batted in.
Rylan Marianchuk got the start on the mound for the Red Sox, and the third year struggled, as he gave up six runs, three earned, on four hits and six walks, while striking out four over 2.1 innings, before being relieved by Silcox, who did not fare much better, giving up three runs, all earned, on two hits and five walks, while striking out two in 2.1 innings.
Aaron Aquino pitched the final 1.1 innings for the Red Sox, allowing no hits and no walks, while striking out two.
The contest had an excellent start offensively for the Red Sox, who scored four times in the top half of the first inning to take a 4-0 lead before the Giants could even put the bat in their hands.
After a solid first inning by Marianchuk, the Red Sox ran into some trouble, as they gave up three runs in each of the second and third innings to watch their 4-0 lead turn into a 6-4 deficit.
A run in the top of the fifth cut the Red Sox’s deficit to one, but the Giants refused to allow the Sox back in, piling up three more runs in the bottom half of inning five to extend their lead to 9-5. The Red Sox tacked on one more in inning six, but that was as close as they would get.
vs. Regina White Sox
The first contest in a June 10 doubleheader in Regina got off to a solid start for the Red Sox, who picked up a 5-1 win over the Regina White Sox.
Kyle Froehlich was excellent on the mound for the Red Sox. The Nipawin native pitched a complete game, allowing just one earned run on just five hits and one walk, striking out five.
Doepker, Matthew McGrath, Drew Bauml, and Cody Bauml did the damage for the Red Sox, as the quartet combined to hit 5-for-16, with four runs batted in and one run scored.
The contest got off to a solid start for the Red Sox, who scored single runs in each of the first two innings to lead 2-0 after an inning and a half.
The White Sox cut into the Red Sox’s lead with a single in the bottom of the second, but the Red Sox took over in the third, tacking on two more, and another in the fourth, to grab a 5-1 lead.
Froehlich shut the door the rest of the way for the Red Sox, allowing just four base runners to pick up the win.
vs. Regina White Sox
After a short break the Red Sox returned to the field for the back half of their doubleheader, where the offence struggled in an 8-1 loss.
McGrath was charged with the loss on the mound for the Red Sox. The LeRoy native gave up six runs, five earned, on seven hits and one walk, while striking out one, over 4.1 innings.Â
Aquino came on in relief of McGrath, and the Lake Lenore native fared only slightly better, giving up two earned runs on three hits, and no walks, while striking out two over 1.2 innings.
Huls drove home the Red Sox’s lone run, as the Humboldt native finished the afternoon 1-for-3 at the plate.

The game stayed 1-0 in favour of the Red Sox until the bottom of inning four, when McGrath ran into trouble.
The White Sox scored twice on McGrath in the inning, which seemed to spark the home side, who added four runs in the bottom of the fifth, and two more in the bottom of inning six to run away with an 8-1 win.
