With a new addition to a team that鈥檚 otherwise been together for five seasons, Team Barker is aiming to represent Saskatchewan at the nationals.
鈥淯ltimately, if we play to the best of our abilities, we believe we can come out on top,鈥� said Danielle Sicinski, the team鈥檚 lead.
Sicinski, along with skip Penny Barker and third Deanna Doig, won the 2017 Scotties provincial championship and lost at the quarter-finals in last year鈥檚 event in Melfort. 聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽
Christie Gamble, the second, is new to the team, having played as third on Team Eberle last season. Team Eberle placed third at last year鈥檚 provincials. Gamble has also competed in provincials in Quebec and Nova Scotia.
The team is from the Moose Jaw curling club, and is ranked fifth in Saskatchewan on the聽 Canadian Team Ranking System. They鈥檝e placed 39th among women鈥檚 teams nationally.
Team Barker was in Humboldt earlier this season, competing at the Women鈥檚 Tour stop on Nov. 20 to Dec. 2
鈥淲e expect to have strong competition in every game. We anticipate that every game will be a battle that requires our best performance in order to win,鈥� Sicinski said. 鈥淲e鈥檙e also expecting to play in front of a knowledgeable and enthusiastic crowd, and to feel welcomed by the amazing community of Humboldt.鈥�
All four members of Team Barker are mothers and self-described number geeks.
鈥淧enny is an actuarial statistician, Deanna is an engineer, Christie completed an MBA in Finance, and Danielle is a chartered professional accountant.鈥� Sicinski said.
