The contest was a much closer one than in recent weeks.

In the end, however, the result was the same for the Battlefords North Stars.

The top team in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League picked up their 12th win in a row Tuesday night at the Civic Centre, as they improved to 20-5-0-0 on the season following a 4-2 victory over the Nipawin Hawks.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a great ride to be a part of right now,鈥 North Stars forward Ben Allen said. 鈥淭he whole team is just buzzing at the moment and I don鈥檛 think it can get any better for us.

鈥淲e have multiple lines up front stepping up and doing whatever it takes to be successful, and that鈥檚 been a huge part to our success here lately.鈥

Allen, Kendall Fransoo and Reed Delainey had a goal and an assist each in the win, while Brett Horn also found the back of the net.

鈥淣ipawin鈥檚 a hard working team and that made it a good matchup for us,鈥 Fransoo said.

鈥淥ne of the things that we have been focussing on here as of late is being consistent on a nightly basis, and I felt like we were all working hard right from the start.鈥

Joel Grzybowski made 29 saves to earn the victory.

Brett Harasymuk and Chad McCartney scored for the Hawks, who have lost their last three games.

鈥淚 felt like we had some chances that we didn鈥檛 capitalize on, but all in all, it was a really fun game for the fans,鈥 Hawks head coach and general manager Doug Johnson said.

The North Stars will return to the Civic Centre Friday for a 7:30 p.m. contest with the Melfort Mustangs.

They will be back in action Saturday as the Estevan Bruins come to town.
